LGED’s CReLIC Deals with 5 Consulting Firms for Climate Research and Infrastructure Studies

DHAKA, Jan 13, 2026 – The Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) has officially signed contracts with five consulting firms to conduct specialized climate-related studies and research. The initiative is being implemented under the Climate Resilient Local Infrastructure Centre (CReLIC), a wing of the Climate Resilient Infrastructure Mainstreaming (CRIMP) project LGED.

The agreement aims to bolster LGED’s capacity to identify climate risks and modernize rural infrastructure planning across Bangladesh. The selected consulting firms will focus on several critical areas of coastal zone to enhance climate resilience. Modernizing the existing Knowledge Management System (KMS) and producing video documentaries, fact sheets and printed materials. Converting training manuals into six animated and interactive e-learning modules for better capacity building. Conducting Rapid Climate Impact Assessments (RCIA) and aligning existing standards and guidelines with climate resilience parameters. Creating a comprehensive database of infrastructural damage over the last 30 years. Analyzing how the nature of disasters is evolving at the Upazila level and whether the rate of damage is increasing over time or not. Documenting the current quality of construction materials (bricks, sand, cement, or special mixtures) in pilot coastal districts including Barguna, Bhola and Satkhira. The signing ceremony was attended by the MDs of the five consulting firms and senior LGED officials, including Syeda Asma Khatun Additional Chief Engineer LGED & Director of CReLIC Md. Abdul Khaleque Project Director CRIMP Md. Latif Hossain Executive Engineer CReLIC Fatema Ismat Ara Senior Assistant Engineer, Arpon Paul and Tanmoy Chakraborty Assistant Engineers along with Specialist Consultants of CReLIC.

This collaboration marks a significant step toward evidence-based engineering ensuring that Bangladesh's rural infrastructure can better withstand the challenges of climate change.
