LGED's CRIMP Project Organizes Two-Day Training Workshop on Preparation of Occupational Health and Safety Action Plan

A two-day training workshop titled "Preparation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Action Plan" was organized by the Climate Resilient Infrastructure Mainstreaming Project (CRIMP) of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) on 5–6 July 2026 at the Seminar Hall on the 12th Floor of the RDED Building, LGED Headquarters.

The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. Md. Azharul Islam Additional Chief Engineer of LGED and Director of the Climate Resilient Local Infrastructure Centre (CReLIC). The event was graced by Mr. Md. Saifuddin Superintending Engineer Human Resources, Environment and Gender Division LGED as the Special Guest. The background, objectives and significance of the training were presented by Md. Abdul Khaleque Project Director of CRIMP.

The training was conducted by Sebastien Frionnet Consultant of KfW, as the lead resource person. Sheikh Touhidur Rahman, Urban Portfolio Coordinator of KfW was also present at the event.

During the sessions Mr. Sebastien Frionnet highlighted the importance of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS), its fundamental principles, and its role in ensuring a safe and healthy working environment. He discussed hazard identification, risk assessment, the hierarchy of controls, emergency preparedness, awareness and capacity building, and the development of key performance indicators for monitoring and evaluating OHS performance. The workshop also included practical exercises, participant presentations, and interactive feedback sessions, enabling participants to translate the concepts into practical workplace applications.

The workshop was attended by Executive Engineers, Senior Assistant Engineers and Assistant Engineers of LGED from Bhola, Barguna and Satkhira districts; the Executive Engineer of Satkhira Pourashava; specialists from the DSM Consulting Firm; representatives of contracting firms and personnel working under various projects. Executive Engineers, Senior Assistant Engineers and Assistant Engineers from CRIMP and CReLIC also participated in the training.

Speaking at the closing session, Mr. Md. Azharul Islam, Additional Chief Engineer of LGED and Director of CReLIC, stated, "LGED plays a vital role in infrastructure development across Bangladesh, from the grassroots to the national level. Our engineers and field personnel work in challenging environments every day, where construction sites often present significant physical hazards. Ensuring the safety of engineers and workers is not optional; it is both our professional and moral responsibility."

He further added, "The knowledge gained from this training should not remain confined to documents. I hope all participants will promptly implement the draft Occupational Health and Safety Action Plans they have developed for their respective projects and workplaces."

Among others present at the workshop were Mr. Md. Moksed Alam, Deputy Team Leader of the DSM Consulting Firm, Banda Hafiz Training Specialist and Syed Mahabub Ahsan Media and Communication Specialist.
