A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Climate Resilient Local Infrastructure Centre (CReLIC), Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) and Institute of Water and Flood Management (IWFM), Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has been signed on Wednesday, 29 September 2021 at 10:00AM in the CReLIC office, Level 11, LGED Bhaban, Agargaon, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka-1207.

The overall objective of the collaboration is exchange of knowledge, sharing of data and information, lessons learnt, and co-development and implementation of study projects as mutually beneficial and/or strategically advantageous. Some of the key activities include:

  •   Formulate and develop innovative research projects and carry out demand-driven action researches focusing on climate-resilient design and implementation of rural infrastructures, roads, bridges and water control structures, and related socio-economic considerations and effects.
  •   Identify, initiate and develop joint research projects in the areas of climatology, ecology, environment, hydrology and hydraulics as well as socio-economic & environmental dimensions in riverine, coastal and marine social-ecological systems, which have large implications for resilient and sustainable infrastructural and institutional interventions The 6 (six) hotspot areas of BDP-2100 can be potential areas for research/study.
  •   Develop and organize short courses, trainings and awareness programs, specifically for LGED and CReLIC, in the field of Climate Change Impacts Identification, Hydrological Survey, Riverine and Marine Ecosystem, EIA, SIA, Wetlands Study, Climate Resilient Designs, and Innovative Construction Materials.
  •   Provide assistance and guidance in formulating public policy priority actions and strategies to accelerate sustainable development by minimizing the vulnerability of climate change and mainstreaming into national development planning.
  •   Support IWFM students in the field-level data collection and share available data relevant to the post-graduate studies of IWFM, to be used for academic purposes.

The Climate Resilient Local Infrastructure Centre (CReLIC) of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) is established under Climate Resilient Infrastructure Mainstreaming (CRIM) project funded by Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Government of Germany through the German Development Bank (KfW) and the Government of Bangladesh (GoB) to mainstream climate resilience in the design, planning and implementation of local infrastructures.
